Case study: Siemens UK PLC

Film: 'The Great Northern Powerhouse'
Siemens approached us to create a news worthy policy announcement for Siemens to explain their commitment to the Northern Powerhouse and their association with forming government policy on Industry 4.0.

A single long interview was filmed and edited together along with several pieces for use on social media, Siemens website and press websites.

The challenge

Capturing both a deep and broad view from the Chief Executive, Juergen Maier, and to visualise his editorial material in a way which would be relevant but for which there was almost no budget.

Our task

Simply to film a half hour interview and create a taster of that interview for promotional purposes. The majority for the interview was to be used for audio and news releases.

How we helped

We set up at Siemens UK HQ and readied ourselves for the very small window that the Chief Executive would have for the interview. Nick Peters was the journalist conducting the interview and we filmed a double header, covering his questions as well as Juergen’s answers.

This raw material was then handed back to Nick Peters and Siemens for press use.

Finally, we edited together a promotional taster for the manufacturer magazine to coincide with their Industry 4.0 campaigns.

Learnings that may be relevant to your firm

Here are a few of our own learnings from the making of suite of explainer videos. Hopefully they can help you prepare for your next production.

  1. When working with a high profile busy individuals, always arrive early and be well prepared – that worked very well here.
  2. Always carry extra camera’s and lights just in case you get a surprising request at the last minute – in this case we had come prepared for a 1 camera interview and wound up filming a two header! We were prepared.
  3. If budget is truly zero for B-roll – be sure to ask the press office for zero cost permission to use corporate footage
  4. When working on news worthy themes – pre-book edit suite time to ensure fast turnaround.
